When Rev. Cynthia Williams became district superintendent of the River Valley District a year ago, she told the District Committee on Superintendency and Strategy (DCOSS), “I like to have fun! We need to have a district fun day!” DCOSS members immediately embraced the idea, and planning was underway months ahead of the July 9 event.
Nearly 100 people attended the District Fun Day at Oxbow Park in Byron. These included current pastors, retired pastors, pastors newly appointed to the district, and laity, all of whom brought their spouses and families. Those with young children visited the zoo, while older folks enjoyed conversation and fellowship. D.S. Cynthia welcomed all, and Elizabeth Macaulay and Cindy Yanchury led the singing of grace. The potluck meal provided a wide range of nourishment, including salads, crockpot entrees, and plenty of desserts. No one left hungry! After the meal, there was more conversation, games of corn hole toss, and walks along the hiking paths. It was an afternoon of smiles, laughter, and hugs--a great time was had by all!
D.S. Cynthia and DCOSS members are already discussing an expanded District Fun Day next year. This is certain to become an annual event!
