Date of death: Oct. 10, 2018 at age 88

Arrangements: A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 3 at Messiah UMC (17805 County Rd. 6, Plymouth). A luncheon will follow. A visitation will take place at the church one hour prior to the service.

Appointment information: Rev. Harper was ordained as an elder in 1954. He served Minnesota churches in Le Sueur, Le Center, Rochester (Bethany UMC), Wayzata (renamed Messiah UMC in Plymouth), and Mounds View. He served as superintendent in the former Metro West District from 1978 to 1984. He retired in 1991.

Rev. Harper is survived by his children, Ruth Harper (Larry Rogers), Emily Levine (Robert), and Paul Harper (Teresa Welborn); four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Minnie Harper; his wife, Shirley; and his brothers, Don, Kenneth, Gerald, and Glenn Harper.
