Dare to Reach grants help churches move into virtual world

April 16, 2020

NOTE: Applications are now closed as we have received requests for all of the funding available.  Contact Gail Johnson for further information.

Every church has had to make a leap in how it connects with its members and community and reaches new people amid COVID-19 and Gov. Tim Walz’s “stay at home” orders for Minnesota. What has become clear is that the virtual church is here to stay, even after we are able return to in-person worship and other events. It is a new day for the ways we engage in our evangelistic task to offer Christ.

We want to walk alongside our Minnesota United Methodist faith communities as they embrace the digital world, so we’re offering seed grants of up to $1,000 to help churches continue pivoting into that future. Is there a gap you have identified or a step you need take to reach more people in a virtual church world? Grants (which are limited to one per church) can be used for equipment, software, subscriptions, licenses, or other materials to help you venture into this brave new world.

The application process, which is fast and brief, involves having a conversation with a member of our Connectional Ministries staff. As you explore resources and opportunities, they might be able to offer other suggestions or options for you to consider. They want to help you advance your ministry in the most efficient and effective ways possible!

All churches are welcome to apply, though churches with fewer than 200 attendees in worship (in the pre-online world of counting) will be given preference. The grant must be used for items and services acquired after March 15, 2020 or for future purchases. Grants will be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis until funds are depleted. Questions? Contact Cullen Tanner or Gail Johnson.

How can you live into God’s vision for your church and make new disciples with the help of a grant? Apply soon for the best chance of receiving a grant. Thank you for your ministry and your leadership at this challenging time.
