Do you have a meaningful personal prayer life and want to learn how to write and lead prayers for your church? Do you want to brush up on your public speaking skills in a supportive environment? Is your church in need of more lay liturgists and you want to step up? This workshop is for you. Rev. Nate Melcher will guide us through conversations about prayers in worship, how to write prayers, and how to deliver them with poise and confidence.
October 10, 7-8 p.m. - The Shape of Prayer
We'll discuss various prayers we find in worship and write a few short prayers intended for a worship setting.
October 17, 7-8 p.m. - The Prayers of the People
We'll explore how to craft a prayer that turns our hearts to God's world, near and far, for a worship setting.
October 24, 7-8 p.m. - Public Speaking and Prayer Writing
We'll practice public speaking in front of one another and share some of the prayers we have written. This session is in-person at Richfield United Methodist Church (5835 Lyndale Avenue S., Minneapolis, MN 55419) and is optional but encouraged.
This free workshop is open to all and co-sponsored by Richfield United Methodist Church and the Minnesota Conference's Lay Servant Ministry Team. Rev. Nate Melcher is the senior pastor of Richfield UMC and a former college English instructor with an MFA in Creative Writing.
