Rev. Cindy Kennedy

As Christians longing for a better world, we are called to reach out to people who are in transitions in various ways, and offer them hope and help. One often overlooked group are those re-entering society after a period of incarceration. There are numerous barriers to be faced, including family reunification, and finding housing and a job.

Rev. Cindy Kennedy is called to do something about this. She has worked in the prison system for six years, the last two studying working models around the country that create intentional Christian communities and sustainable businesses that train and employ those coming out of prison.

She is hosting an event on Thursday, March 7 at Hilltop United Methodist Church, 108 South Manitou Drive, Mankato.  The event will be from 10-11:30 a.m.

Her presentation, entitled “Outreach to the Prisoner: How to Start This Ministry,” will help attendees:
  • Learn how to talk about incarceration and re-entry issues
  • Learn how to address fears and safety
  • Learn how to create a ministry in hour community
  • Learn how to make connections with local law enforcement
  • Learn how to make connections with correction facilities
  • Learn about long-term options for re-entry jobs and housing
  • Learn about models that are working around the country
