For All Who Are New to Minnesota, July 18-19
Orientation for those beginning their first appointment in the Minnesota Annual Conference will be Thursday, July 18 from 9:30-4:30 with an optional dinner out.  We will talk about our mission and values as the Minnesota Annual Conference, expectations of clergy, and resources we have to support you in your ministry.  On Friday July 19th, 9:30-4, you will be joined by anyone starting a new appointment for a Starting Strong Workshop.  We spend the day looking at best practices for your first year in a new appointment and building your 100 day plan, as well as thinking intentionally and strategically as you lead in a new setting. If you need overnight lodging, contact with gail.johnson@minnesotaumc.org, and she will work with you to book a room at a convenient hotel to our meeting location, which will be the Minnesota Church Center (122 W. Franklin Ave, Minneapolis).

For Starting Strong on Friday
If you have never done the Gallup Strengthsfinders, we would like you to take that inventory before the workshop since you will be using that in your preparation.  You can purchase the book Strengthsfinder 2.0 by Tom Rath, and in the book, you will find a code to take the inventory.  It is available in most bookstores.  Or you can go to https://www.gallupstrengthscenter.com/ and click on purchase Clifton Strengthsfinder, and purchase the Top Five Strengths for $9.99.  Same assessment, you just will only get the in-depth description for your five strengths.  The book describes them all.

We also have some questions for you to reflect on.  Some may be more applicable than others, but please review them and jot notes on the ones that are pertinent.

1)      What are your five Strength Finders Themes (and their proper order?)
2)      As you reflect on your current ministry location, what are your greatest take-a-ways regarding your ministry in your current assignment? (i.e. what went well, what did you struggle with…)
3)      What are three things you’d like to try in your next ministry assignment?
4)      If you were to reinvent your ministry, what would it look like?
5)      Where have you sabotaged yourself in regards to your ministry? (i.e. what types of struggles do you face on a consistent basis?)
6)      What are your top three ministry fears?
7)      What components of ministry have given you the greatest success and/or ministry fulfillment?  What makes them successful or fulfilling?
8)      What is most exciting to you about the new ministry appointment?
9)      What is most anxiety-provoking for you as you think about the new ministry appointment?
10)   What does support from your DS look like for you as you prepare and launch your new ministry assignment?
