Have you attended a ConneXion Retreat and feel ready to take the next step in your faith and ministry? Is the Holy Spirit inspiring you to ministries related to preaching and worship leadership? Are you called to provide pulpit supply beyond your local church?

Lay speaker certification is a process that prepares you to move forward. This segment consists of practical and inspiring classes offered virtually on three consecutive Fridays (classes are from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with breaks and time for lunch):

• November 3: Jacob Holck, pastor at Grey Eagle and Sauk Centre United Methodist Churches
  Formation of the sermon message, exploration of useful tools, sermon delivery, use of the Lectionary in Scripture selection
• November 10, Dr. Bruce Forbes, Professor Emeritus of Religious studies, Morningside College, retired
  United Methodist/Wesleyan history and belief systems
• November 17, Marion Hansen, Certified Lay Speaker
  Development of the worship service, Lay Speaker requirements, utilization of technology.

Being a certified Lay Speaker enables you to preach and provide pulpit supply beyond your local church.  In addition to these three workshops, the certification process requires participation in a ConneXion retreat, submitting a call statement and recording of a sermon, and an interview with members of the Lay Ministry team. These steps will be explained during the sessions.

It is recommended that the participant attend the ConneXion program before attending the Certified Lay Speaker Training.  Please contact Marion prior to registration if you have not previously completed this program.

Cost is $75.  Do not let the expense keep you from participating, alternate arrangements can be made.
