The Minnesota Annual Conference will be offering a training course for those interested in volunteering for disaster relief work through UMCOR.  Becoming an Early Response Team (ERT) member gives you the credentials to enter disaster torn areas. ERTs from Minnesota respond to various types of disasters such as flooding, tornados, and hurricanes.  You must have completed this training and have a successful background check on file with UMCOR in order to volunteer.

ERTs fill a specific need in the days soon after a natural disaster. ERTs remove debris, clean out flood-damaged homes, and otherwise help to prevent further property damage while providing a caring Christian presence. ERT volunteers are different from general volunteers because we are trained, have security background checks and are entirely self-sufficient. The Minnesota ERT trained volunteers have been active since 1997 working disasters in Minnesota and Wisconsin within the North Central Jurisdiction and also serving in other states when major disasters have hit.  In 2018 alone the team has deployed 8 teams to help with flooding in southern Minnesota, flooding in southwest Wisconsin, and the tornado outbreak in southern Minnesota.

The course, taught by UMCOR certified instructors, provides the basic skills for you to become a member of the Early Response Team.
