Minnesota Disaster Response Team will be offering a training course for those interested in volunteering for hurricane relief through UMCOR. Becoming an Emergency Response Team (ERT) member gives you the credentials to enter disaster torn areas. ERTs from Minnesota will be responding to recent hurricanes and other disasters. You must have completed this training and have a successful background check on file with the conference in order to volunteer.
ERTs fill a specific need in the days soon after a natural disaster. ERTs remove debris, clean out flood-damaged homes, and otherwise help to prevent further property damage while providing a caring Christian presence. ERT volunteers are different from general volunteers because we are trained, have security background checks and are entirely self-sufficient. Since 1997 ERT trained volunteers have worked at 18 Minnesota disasters and responded five times to disasters in other states. The course, taught by UMCOR certified instructors, provides the basic skills for you to become a member of the Early Response Team.
