Lay Visitors Training
Hennepin Avenue UMC is offering a Lay Visitors Training Course in March-May 2019. When this class was offered in 2015 and 2017, other congregations sent students in order to develop or enhance their lay visitors program. We are inviting you to consider sending students to the 2019 course.
Instructors include current care team members, congregation clergy, and Mark Peterson—an ELCA pastor and experienced lay visitor trainer.
If you send students, you will be responsible for:
- Recruiting and approving the admission of the students from your congregation.
- Allowing each student to shadow you, or another pastoral visitor, on at least one hospital or home visit.
- Meeting with each student 1:1 when the course is over to make a decision about accepting them into your program. (Course leaders will share copies of students' coursework and an impression of their fitness for the work.)
- Remitting a $25 fee per student to cover expenses. (The registration fee can be paid by the student or the congregation.)
To register, contact Mark Peterson at firstname.lastname@example.org
