Director of Communications

published 1/26/2021

OC Ministries, a United Methodist organization that ministers to the minds, bodies and souls of children and their families in West Africa and the Caribbean through Classrooms, Clinics, Churches, Clean Water, Clear Vision and Crops, is seeking a director of communications.
In the last thirty years, OC Ministries has completed fifty projects in seven countries—currently working in Haiti, Jamaica, Liberia and Sierra Leone—to build and renovate schools, clinics and churches, as well as dig wells, plant farms, facilitate vision clinics and provide school scholarships under the leadership of Methodists in each country.
Through our efforts, thousands of children and youth attend our schools each year, children and their families are helped in our clinics, people have clean water to drink, teachers are being trained, people are less hungry, and children and adults are being baptized in our churches.
Over five hundred volunteers have traveled to work alongside nationals at our sites, making long-lasting friendships and gaining a better understanding of their own culture after being immersed in another. Generations of people have been helped, inspired and changed forever. Partners in our country and theirs have built solid foundations and look forward to working together in the coming years.
Over eighty United Methodist congregations and non-governmental organizations and dozens of other individuals have made contributions to OC Ministries. As our fiscal agent, the Minnesota Annual Conference of the UMC provides and insures proper accountability, as well as guidance.
We need you to help us to expand and move forward together!
The director of communications will:

  • Set and guide the strategy for all types of communications in collaboration with the board to consistently articulate OC Ministries’ mission.
  • Manage the development, distribution and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral, including newsletters (e-newsletters), social media, brochures, website and annual report.
  • Assist membership and development volunteers with fundraising appeals and events.
  • Increase awareness of OC Ministries by seeking positive media coverage of newsworthy events and articles.
The director of communications is expected to work an average of three hours per week. A small stipend is available.
The director of communications must have a working knowledge of WIX website software, Mailchimp, social media, and marketing. Experience in videography/video editing and graphic design is a plus.
