Director of Children's, Youth, and Family Ministries

Living Spirit UMC in Minneapolis is seeking an energetic person to develop, plan, and implement ministries to children, youth, families, and young adults. Living Spirit UMC is a multicultural, multiracial, urban congregation in south Minneapolis, committed to offering vibrant worship and participating in God’s creative work in today’s world—doing justice, seeking peace, and building healthy, vibrant communities.

Duties:

Children’s Ministry
  • Evaluate and select curriculum for children’s church and organize “milestone” faith formation events
Youth Ministry
  • Develop and lead program for youth in grades 6–12 that mixes fellowship and faith formation
Young Adult Ministry
  • Work with young adult lay leaders to resource and coordinate fellowship and faith formation programming for young adults
Events/Outreach
  • Plan and lead seasonal and outreach events with the Children, Youth, and Families (CYF) ministry team, including: Easter morning program, Pumpkin Party, Christmas program, Urban Camp, and Rally Day
  • Create additional activities with approval of the CYF team.
Volunteer Management & Administration
  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers for all CYF programs, including coordinating volunteer teaching teams for children’s church, assistants in the nursery, and chaperones for youth programs
  • Work with office administrator to track Safe Gatherings background checks and training, as well as registration records for each age group
  • Order, track, and coordinate supplies and technology for instruction
  • Oversee the CYF Ministries team

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education
  • Capacity to love and serve God and people, especially children, youth, and young adults
  • Intergenerational and multicultural communication skills
  • Ability to organized, equip, empower, and supervise teams of volunteers
  • Strong relationship building skills
  • Flexibility
  • Growing Christian faith
  • Cultural competency and commitment to understanding and undoing systems of oppression and marginalization, including but not limited to race, disability, gender, sexuality, and immigration status
  • Experience working with diverse cultures
  • Experience directing and developing ministries for children, youth, and families
  • Willing to support the theology and values of Living Spirit Church
