Children’s Ministry Leader

First UMC in Lindstrom is seeking a half-time children’s ministry leader to help children know Christ and grow in their relationship with Christ.

Organizational Relationships:

  • The children’s ministry leader is ultimately responsible to the Church Council and is accountable to them through the senior pastor in the performance of their duties.
  • The children’s ministry leader is expected to attend the congregational meetings, church council meetings and the annual all-church meeting.
  • There will be an annual review done by the senior pastor or church council.

Terms of Employment:

This position is for 20 hours per week. Hourly wage will be based on the position and experience. This position is for one year and may be continued by mutual agreement. Employment subject to completed background check.


  • Oversee the children’s ministries for the elementary grade (PreK-fifth grade) programs at First United Methodist Church. This would include: Sunday school, community outreach programs (example: living Nativity, Easter carnival), Christmas programs, and other children’s ministries.
  • Outline and implement strategic plan that supports growth and development for Children’s Ministry Program.
  • Provide structured lessons and educational activities that can be provided to the volunteers and support team. Utilize communication and organization to clearly articulate plans.
  • Ensure that there is a Biblically based curriculum in the children’s ministry programs at First United Methodist Church, created in alignment with First United Methodists overall strategic plan as outlined by the Pastor and Church Council. All teachers and leadership connected to the Children’s Ministry Program should be provided the opportunity for ongoing training with the goal of discipling children to know, worship and serve God.
  • Recruit qualified volunteers to serve in the children’s ministry. Such individuals should be in agreement with core beliefs, values and mission of First United Methodist Church, verified through a screening process.
  • Provide godly leadership and training to inspire, motivate and encourage gifted people to use their abilities in the ministry by:
    1. Communicating the children’s ministry goals.
    2. Creating a vision for the future.
    3. Making people aware of opportunities for ministry.
  • Provide the necessary direction, input and evaluation to the pastoral staff and Children’s Ministry Team to ensure the effective operation of the ministry programs.
    1. Provide general oversight of ministry directors/coordinators and their staff
    2. Annually set goals with the Children’s Ministry Team
    3. Work with pastoral staff in matching people to children’s ministry opportunities
    4. Prepare an annual budget with the Finance Committee.
    5. Give a report to at Church Council and annual All-Church meetings.


  • Evidence of a personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Meet Biblical standards for church leaders.
  • Demonstrate leadership abilities through current church involvement in areas such as teaching, volunteer recruitment and training, leadership and management.
  • Be in agreement with the Core Beliefs, Values and Mission of this church.
  • Required Attendance: Sundays and Church Staff Meetings
  • Preferred Qualifications: Prefer the candidate have a teaching degree, ministry degree and/or related experience.
