Youth Social Media Connector

Portland Avenue UMC (PAUMC) in Bloomington is seeking a part-time youth social media connector to grow online followers of the church using social media, with an emphasis on reaching youth and increasing online visibility of PAUMC, thereby growing followers of Jesus Christ and PAUMC’s mission. This is a one-year grant-funded position.

Social media connector reports to the pastor, with accountability and performance appraisal conducted by the pastor and representative(s) of the Staff Parish Relations Committee.

This is a 1-year grant-funded position with the possibility of extension if grant renewed. 8-10 hours a week with some flexibility which include Sunday 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.; Wednesday 6:30 – 8:30 pm, and another 5 hour work day (can be negotiated).
 

Duties:

  • Assess The PORT’s social media status and help devise a plan to improve it, based on the grant’s outcome goals (with written summary)
  • Work with the pastor and youth on a plan to increase social media presence with other youth (with written summary)
  • Livestream 2-3 PAUMC youth events and 1 other churchwide event
  • Conduct and livestream or record weekly interview with 1-2 youth at a time (with pastor present)
  • Give input on improving church’s webpage, Facebook page, and possibly a third platform that specifically appeals to youth
  • Give input and guidance on livestreaming of Sunday worship
  • Help identify then train 4 of our youth in basic skills of social media promotion
  • Share other input or feedback so the church can learn how to improve social media presence

Qualifications:

  • Proficient in social media and other communication tools
  • Experience working with youth
  • Ability to work collaboratively with youth, parents, church leaders, staff and Pastor
  • Strong servant leadership skills with experience in discerning when to lead and when to encourage others to lead
  • Ability to work independently at times
  • Excellent personal relations and organizational skills
  • Open and flexible to change and new ways of seeing or doing things
  • Spiritual maturity with a strong desire to build relationships with youth
  • Proven ability to handle confidential matters with sensitivity and professionalism
  • Willingness to support and uphold the values and mission of The PORT
  • Successful completion of background check

Compensation:
$18-20/hour (depending on experience)
