At the United Methodist Church of Anoka, we believe that investing in, relationships with, and supporting youth is critical to the mission of making new disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. In youth ministry, young people are invited to explore their faith, ask questions, build lifelong relationships, and grow in confidence as followers of Jesus. The person coordinating this ministry needs to bring a love and passion for working with youth and their families. This person will provide a much-needed presence of compassion, support, encouragement, and inclusion. The work of the youth ministries coordinator will average 20 hours each week, with the flexibility to adjust work schedule according to the needs and demands of the role.

Duties:

Youth Engagement (75%): Design, implement and lead in-person and virtual activities and touch-points to foster faith and community with youth church members. Lead service projects and special opportunities like retreats, camp or mission experiences. Facilitate outreach to youth and families within targeted communities. Utilize multiple media platforms and manage accounts/groups for and with youth. Coordinate with the pastor to ensure youth are engaged in the whole life of the church and the community, including worship. Commit to continued growth through trainings, conferences and camp retreats. Model genuine faith, service and humble leadership.

Planning, Coordination and Evaluation (25%): Meet with the pastor and youth ministry team regularly to set and ensure youth ministry goals are met. Maintain communication with parents and community members. Participate and lead in activities/event planning for the youth ministry for grades 6-12. Work with and mentor youth ministry volunteers. Ensure that all youth ministry volunteers are trained, supported, have received background and social media checks and are following Safe Sanctuaries policies. Effectively evaluate programming and events.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
  • Relationship-focused, ability to connect with youth and families
  • Outgoing and energetic personality
  • Leadership skills and willingness to learn

Bonus experience and skills, and some experience with:

  • Strong written and communication skills
  • Goal-oriented lesson or activity planning and evaluation
  • Camp/youth counseling
  • Tutoring/teaching
  • Working with families
  • Event planning
  • Targeted community engagement
  • ​Proficiency in Google workspace and social media

Compensation:
