Hennepin Avenue UMC in Minneapolis is seeking a full-time director of family ministries.
Vision for Family Ministries
Make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world by helping youth and children grow in their love of God and neighbor, reach out to love new people and heal a broken world as they live their faith everywhere and every day.
Purpose of Position
The director of family ministries will join our ministry teams to develop children and youth ministries that teach and support all five HAUMC CORE Practices. The director of family ministries will lead children and youth to cultivate Christian practices that will equip them to be centered, open, receptive and engaged with God and the world for lifelong fruitful ministry.
The primary task of children and youth ministries is to:
Love children and youth and engage with them where they are and no matter who they are
Encourage children and youth to question, learn, grow and choose to follow Jesus as they grow in their love of God and neighbors
Model a growing faith that reflects the best of our Wesleyan doctrine and is contagious, compelling, and curious
Provide children and youth opportunities to invite their friends
Challenge youth and children to respond to God’s call to serve and heal a broken world
Conduct a post-pandemic assessment of existing programs
Maintain a team approach by continually inviting, training, and praying for volunteers who serve in the Children and Youth Ministries
Develop and execute continued vision for the Children and Youth Ministry ministries, collaborating with volunteers and aligned with Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church’s overall vision and mission
Grow all aspects of Children and Youth programs (birth through high school)
Focus on the spiritual growth of children and youth and their families by creating strong, Biblically-based programs and study in a safe, loving and Christ-centered environment
Duties:
Evaluate and select appropriate curriculum for all age groups
Consult with worship leaders and help lead development of content for children and youth during worship.
Lead, plan, develop, all aspects of children and youth ministry with adult leaders who love kids and youth.
Recruit, train, develop, equip and support the work of the Children and Youth Team and other adult leaders in an annual process of planning, implementing, and evaluating the vision and goals of the children and youth ministry in alignment with the overall ministry of HAUMC.
Hire, supervise, and train paid nursery staff
Lead Confirmation Ministry and provide support for confirmands, mentors, and parents beyond the classroom.
Keep records of youth and children participation, create budgets and manage them.
Communicate in a timely manner to maximize participation and awareness of the children and youth ministries of HAUMC. Utilize all available resources (email, social media, website, bulletin, newsletter, etc.) to ensure timely and consistent communications with church staff and leadership, parents, and the congregation as a whole.
Encourage and support parents in their role of guiding their children’s spiritual growth
Work collaboratively with other staff members and cultivate healthy teamwork.

Qualifications:
Must be a passionate follower of Jesus Christ with a desire to continually grow in your own faith.
Must embrace Wesleyan doctrine and theology
A bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred
Demonstrated ability to lead, plan, develop, recruit and empower volunteers
Excellent written and verbal communication skills including all forms of social media, relational skills, and computer skills
Proven ability to work effectively with youth and adult volunteers
Ability to incite enthusiasm in children and youth ministry programs
Proficient in Google Suite
Compensation:
$48,000-$55,000 depending on qualifications
