Human Resources Manager

The Well UMC in Rosemount is seeking a part-time human resource manager to be responsible for supporting and overseeing the administration of the church including the following functions: human resources, payroll, facilities, administration, finance, and various church activities. This position will develop and recommend best practices for human resources and office administration, and communicate church policy, procedures, plans and goals to the staff and supervises staff as designated by the lead pastor.  Reports to the lead pastor at The Well. This a part-time position (24+ hours/week, exempt). A United Methodist background is not required, but the successful candidate must be in agreement with the standards, theology and policies of The Well.

Human Resources and Payroll

  • Regularly reviews human resources policies, procedures and programs and presents recommendations to the Lead Pastor so as to comply with all federal and state regulations and reflect the mission of The Well.
  • Oversees the bi-weekly payroll.
  • Recruits and hires non-clergy staff for The Well (coordinates interviews) in coordination with the Staff Parish Relations Committee member(s) SPRC.
  • In collaboration with the Director of God’s Discovery Kids Preschool, hires for GDK.
  • Facilitates background checks.
  • Oversees compliance of Safe Sanctuary policies and risk management, including background checks and Child Safety Training for all staff and volunteers working with children, youth and vulnerable adults.
  • Communicates benefit information to clergy and staff, answering questions, conducting open enrollment, forwarding information and recording to the Annual Conference Office and The Well’s Lead Pastor.
  • Analyzes staff time logs and time studies for trends and patterns.
  • Manages employee files confidentially.
  • Supervises Bookkeeper and Financial and Membership Secretary.

SPRC Team support   
  • Interacts with the SPRC team on issues and needs.

Conference & District
  • Serves as a liaison to the office of the District Superintendent (to schedule church and charge conferences, send minutes, etc.).
  • Manages benefits related to pastors and staff.
  • Manages information on enrollment in health insurance.
  • Delegates, coordinates, prepares and files the Annual Report for the Annual Conference Office.
  • Manages process and paperwork for the Pastor’s annual evaluation.
God’s Discovery Kids
  • Manages hires and advises on personnel issues and needs.
  • Partners with the GDK Director to ensure compliance.
Other Responsibilities
  • Manages special projects, delegating duties where appropriate, as designated by the Lead Pastor.
  • Regularly participates in the following meetings – staff and the Operations Team, and task forces as appropriate.

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience in human resources and business administration.
  • Strong communication skills required to communicate and interact with staff, volunteers and church leaders.
  • Must have varied human resources experiences in employee relations, recruiting, and human resources administration.
  • Passion for and ability to create, implement and evaluate teams of volunteers.
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office).
  • Payroll experience in ADP preferred.
  • Educational background and work experience in Human Resources required.
