Communications/Social Media/Technology Coordinator

This part-time position coordinates communications and relevant technology that keeps Epworth United Methodist Church connected with members and friends, the community, the Annual Conference, and the general public. This position can be combined with the Epworth Admin Assistant position.

Duties:

  • Develops content strategy aligned with short-term and long-term marketing targets
  • Collaborates with administrative assistant, pastor and volunteer teams to plan and develop website content, style and layout for website and social media
  • Stays well-informed on church events and “advertises” them before they happen 
  • Updates the church’s website (calendar, bulletins, newsletter, photos)
  • Creates and publishes engaging hardcopy and electronic content
  • Maintains consistency in branding of all materials regarding logo, mission statement, messaging, etc. coming out of the Epworth office
  • Works with administrative assistant to determine how marketing information will be disseminated (church newsletterneighborhood newspaperchurch Facebookchurch website, etc.)
  • Advertises special services and events
  • Implements and updates new technology as needed
  • Creates and sends regular all-church emails and Facebook postings in coordination with the pastor
  • Uses content management systems to analyze website, email platform, and social media engagement metrics
  • Manages content distribution to marketing channels (paper, web, and social media platforms) to increase traffic
  • Ensures compliance with laws (e.g. copyright and data protection)
  • Maintains confidentiality required by church policy
  • Attends weekly staff meetings and stays in contact with staff about what is needed for the week

Qualifications:

  • BS in Communication, Journalism, Marketing or relevant field or Associate Degree plus 2 years of experience in Communication, Journalism, Marketing or relevant field
  • Experience with website management; basic technical knowledge of HTML and web publishing
  • Excellent writing skills in English; creative writing skills desirable; social media savvy
  • Adept in MS Office, website management, email apps and platforms (e.g., MailChimp, Constant Contact), at least one electronic calendar (e.g., Outlook, Google), at least one virtual meeting platform (e.g., Zoom, Google Meet), at least one graphic platform/program/software (Adobe Photoshop, Canva, Depositphotos), at least one presentation program (e.g., PowerPoint, Keynote)
  • Able and willing to learn and use other needed software, programs, platforms
  • Proven work experience as a content manager

Compensation:
$20/hour; 5-8 hours/week with possibility of future increased hours
