Choir Director and Leader of Congregational Song

published 6/15/2021

Northfield UMC is seeking a part-time choir director and leader of congregational song.

NUMC is an active, diverse, and intergenerational congregation. Worship on Sunday morning includes many kinds of music provided by organ, piano, the church band, and our choir and vocalists. The NUMC choir is all volunteer and currently has around 20 members. While the choir sings an anthem or special music each week, the primary role of the choir is meant to support and enhance congregational singing. Northfield United Methodist Church has an extensive music library with additional funds budgeted each year for the purchase of new music.

Our welcome statement: We affirm that all people are created in the image of God and, as beloved children of God, all are worthy of God’s love and grace, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, family status, race, ethnicity, physical or mental ability, socio-economic status, or age. We unreservedly support and affirm the full inclusion of persons of all sexual orientations and gender identities in all facets of ministry at Northfield UMC, including ordination and marriage. Following Christ’s example, we open our hearts, minds, and doors to welcome all who come to us in God’s grace. We are seeking a creative, energetic director with choral conducting experience.

  • Maintain music library.
  • Recruit and nurture singers, soloists, small groups, and instrumentalists.
  • Work collaboratively with music/worship coordinator, pastors, organists, and other musical groups in the church.
  • Bring enthusiasm to the musical experience of the choir and congregation.

Qualifications:

  • Choral conducting skills, knowledge of vocal health, and the ability to instruct proper singing technique.
  • Personal flexibility to foster openness, inclusiveness, and cooperation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and congenial attitude.
  • An imaginative and skilled leader.
  • Interest in and experience with varied musical styles, and repertoire.
  • Ability to enthusiastically lead the congregation in singing and to guide the choir in learning repertoire while increasing musicianship.
