Director of Children's & Family Ministry

Hamline Church United Methodist in St. Paul is seeking a motivated individual to serve as our director of children’s Ministries, facilitating all aspects of Hamline Church’s ministry to children and families (birth–grade six). This part-time position requires professionalism and confidentiality as well as exceptional oral and written communication skills, and a passion for children’s spiritual growth and development.

Duties:
Education and Spiritual Formation: Design, develop, and implement innovative and effective regular and occasional educational, spiritual, service and social events that facilitate the vision and values of Spiritual Formation within children and parents. Work with the pastor and Spiritual Formation Team to plan curriculum, programming, and missions.

Operations: Diligently manage the schedules, events, physical resources, and organizational needs of the Children’s Ministry. This includes all supplies, physical spaces, budgeting, and scheduling events and volunteers. Build relationships with families and the church through communication, including the church newsletter, email updates, website, social media, etc. Maintain compliance with the Safe Sanctuary Policies of the church.

Resource: Research, develop, identify and make available educational resources that will be used within the Children’s Ministry, as well as providing resources and opportunities for families in faith and development that can encourage spiritual formation in the home. Provide spiritual formation and family/parental development resources and opportunities. 

Leadership Development: Identify, recruit, train, envision, and nurture the volunteers, teachers and leadership teams around the areas of early childhood, elementary and parents.

Additional Expectations:
The overarching expectation is that the director will be known amongst children and families, as well as by other stakeholders and leaders, by being present in the following ways:

  • Active participation and leadership in the Sunday worship service and church events.
  • Be present in the community and at events important to children and families. 
  • Invite and engage other leaders, forming supportive teams, so as not to be the sole holder of all ministry knowledge nor the lone leader responsible for carrying out the work of the ministry.
  • Attendance and participation is expected at Sunday worship, holiday worship, staff meetings (currently Tuesdays 12:30), a weekly one-on-one meeting with supervisor, monthly meeting with lead pastor, Spiritual Formation team meetings (monthly), and occasional Church Council Meetings or other meetings as needed. 
  • Consistent office hours each week Monday-Thursday, between the hours of 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Schedule is flexible to be determined in consultation with supervisor. 

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in children’s ministry or youth ministry and church leadership. Clearly communicate his or her Christian faith.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Religious Studies or related field. 
  • Pass a criminal background screening
  • Work Sundays, Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter and occasional additional events like retreats or mission trips. 
  • Receive and maintain necessary CPR and First Aid Certifications
  • Complies with all aspects and policies of the Hamline Church United Methodist Personnel Policy

Commensurate with experience
