Financial Bookkeeper

Coon Rapids UMC is looking for a part-time staffed financial bookkeeper. Part-time, approximately 10-12 hours per week, and in time, could be entirely remote. A background check is required of all staff.

Duties:

  • Pay all church related expenses timely and accurately
  • Maintain the payroll system for the church, including the tax reporting requirements
  • Enter all church financial transactions timely and accurately into the accounting system
  • Ensure all expense checks issued and payments made have been properly authorized prior to payment
  • Track and report the ministry fund actual income and expenses against the budget monthly on the treasurer’s report, including all restricted or designated funds
  • Reconcile the operating checking account within the accounting system to the monthly bank statements
  • Close out the books annually within the accounting system and generate a year-end income & expense statement and an asset & liability report for the church’s records retention
  • Work with the financial secretary to record and track all funds received, including designated gifts and bequests
  • Work in conjunction with the finance chair and the leadership teams in developing the annual operating budget for the ministry fund
  • Attend finance committee meetings and review the treasurer’s report with the committee
  • Assist the ministry team leaders in understanding their financial data
  • Research and recommend changes to the accounting system to automate and streamline expense payment processing and issuing payroll

Qualifications:
Required

  • 3-4 years prior accounting experience
  • 2-3 years experience with QuickBooks software accounting system
  • Gifted in administration and communication; trustworthy on every level; strong faith.
  • Attention to details and the ability to work with individuals and ministry teams
  • Minimum of 15 credits of college accounting and business classes or equivalent
  • Effective computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheets
Desired
  • 2-3 years prior church treasurer experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or business
  • Payroll and tax reporting knowledge and competence

Compensation:
Salary commensurate with qualifications, but minimum starts at $20/hr
