Youth Ministry Leader

Start: September 1, 2020 (or as early as possible)

The purpose of this position is to provide instruction and guidance in the Bible and Christian faith through lessons, activities, and service for youth who are connected to Iglesia Piedra Viva UMC in South Minneapolis. The role of the youth ministry leader will be to facilitate and lead a developmentally appropriate programming for youth ranging from sixth to 12th grade in order to help them grow in their faith, develop a personal relationship with God, and learn how their faith influences their daily living and interactions.

Duties:

  • Design and implement ministries and discipleship opportunities that will help youth grow in their faith in Jesus Christ
  • Plan and lead at least one weekly spiritual formation lesson or activity for youth (in-person or virtual)
  • Plan and lead several special service and activity events for the youth throughout the year
  • Create a safe environment for youth (physically, mentally, and emotionally)
  • Research and acquire necessary materials for activities (e.g. craft supplies and curriculum) (leader will be reimbursed)
  • Manage the budget for youth ministry
  • Be present and ready to teach on the day of each activity
  • Build Christ-centered, authentic relationships with each youth
  • Communicate effectively with youth and their guardians (at a minimum on a weekly basis)
  • Be in contact with and cooperate with the pastor regarding themes to teach, evaluation meetings, and integrating the youth in the wider IPV community
  • Work in collaboration children’s ministry leader and occasionally substitute in children’s ministry activities
  • Help plan the youth’s role in various special activities throughout the year (e.g. La Posada)
  • Plan summer activities for the youth (including but not limited to Family Camp and summer camp for the youth)
  • Attend and participate in church evaluation and planning meetings

Qualifications:

  • Personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior (as is demonstrated in an active Christian lifestyle)
  • Supports the theological beliefs of Iglesia Piedra Viva
  • Is able to work independently and follow direction from the pastor and other supervisors
  • Works well cross-culturally
  • Professional conduct and good interpersonal skills
  • Is flexible
  • Is organized
  • Be able to pass a background check to work with youth
  • Timely attendance (includes reliable transportation)
  • Has experience working with middle school and/or high school students
  • High school diploma required
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English is a huge bonus in regards to interacting with parents and other members of the church, but it is not necessary as the activities for youth are held in English.
