Church Office Administrator

Grand Rapids UMC is seeking a part-time church office administrator to oversee the work of the church office and assist the pastor for 25 hours per week. Two years of previous experience preferred. Qualified applicants must be proficient in Word, Excel, Publisher, and be willing to learn church membership database software.


 
 

Duties:

The office administrator generally oversees the work of the church office, and at the pastor’s request, may supervise the work of both paid office staff and/or volunteers who assist in the church office. The office administrator oversees much of the communication of the church through correspondence, newsletter, and electronic tools. The office administrator acts as the receptionist for the church and schedules and oversees building use. The office administrator supports the ministry of the church by acting as a personal assistant to the pastor and assisting other staff when appropriate. The office administrator reports directly to the pastor and indirectly to the Staff Parish Relations Committee.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative and general office organization; must be able to multi-task and prioritize
  • Answer phones and provide excellent customer service
  • Draft and produce correspondence, communications, and monthly newsletter.
  • Learn church database linked to church growth and update the database
  • Cross-train with other church staff so that each person can take over the other’s duties when
  • needed
  • Oversee budget and track expenses of office
  • Provide support/training for all office equipment and use of database
  • Maintain church master calendar and manage building use
  • Other jobs as assigned
  • Strictest confidentiality imperative

Qualifications:

Minimum skills required:

  • Knowledge of and appreciation for the Christian faith and local church administration
  • High school graduate; two years of college or business school desirable
  • Excellent composition and verbal skills, grammar, spelling and clarity of presentation
  • Experience with Windows 10, Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher and other basic software
  • Basic understanding of data base software; previous experience with Servant Keeper is a plus
  • Experience with office equipment including copier, fax and scanner
  • Courteous and diplomatic
  • 2-3 years prior secretarial or administrative experience desired
  • Excellent organization skills

Compensation:
Hourly, dependent upon experience.
