Next Generation Ministries Coordinator

Christ UMC in Rochester is seeking a full-time coordinator of Next Generation Ministries to design and direct discipleship ministries, to celebrate and support life transitions, and to provide outreach opportunities and excellent administration and communication to families in the Rochester area. The coordinator will focus on children, youth, and families from the time that the family is expecting a new family member through birth or adoption until the time of high school graduation.

Duties:
1. Discipleship formation

  • Works with Next Generation Ministry team, Faith to Life team and clergy to clearly articulate and implement an excellent and comprehensive path of faith development from birth through high school graduation
  • Incorporates the Wesleyan quadrilateral of faith including spiritual practice, worship, compassion, and justice to structure the path of discipleship formation
  • Implements “Godly Play” curriculum for pre K – grade 3 Sunday School
  • Develops Sunday morning education and on-site mission experiences for grades 4 - 5 
  • Oversees Vacation Bible School program
  • Develops and oversees all discipleship, fellowship and mission programming for mid high and senior high youth and considers youths’ interests and availability in the programming
  • Participates in Wednesday evening programming
  • Participates in Sunday worship as invited by the lead pastor
2. Life transition celebration and support
  • Provides celebration and support for families at milestone events such as and not limited to:
  • Expecting new family member 
  • Birth or adoption of new family member
  • Welcome to Godly Play
  • Transition to Kindergarten 
  • Receiving Bibles in the third grade
  • Transition to Middle School
  • “Coming of age”
  • Confirmation
  • Graduation from high school
3. Community building and outreach
  • Cultivates relationships within and between families
  • Develops systems and supports for older children, youth, and adults to nurture and mentor younger participants 
  • In collaboration with the Connection Ministry, cultivates culture of invitation, engagement , and belonging
  • Creates and oversees projects for intergenerational engagement
  • Oversees community outreach events such as “Trunk or Treat” and “Celebration of Creation”
4. Communication and administration
  • Collaborates with Connection Ministry to ensure that demographic data about children, youth and families is collected and maintained
  • Oversees Safe Sanctuary policy and training and reports concerns to the lead pastor
  • Maintains safe and appropriate staffing for children and youth programs
  • Collaborates with Director of Communications to provide excellent communication about events and opportunities for children, youth, and families in the church and community 
  • Incorporates ways to hear and respond effectively to feedback from families about their experiences in the church

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Children, Youth, and Family Ministries plus one year experience, or education and experience commensurate with this level of preparation
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain an effective team
