Messiah UMC in Plymouth is seeking a director of operations to direct, manage, and lead all aspects of facilities, finance, and security operations.

Job Functions

  • Support the development of a culture where the primary task is to grow disciples
  • Model and support effective communication between all ministry areas, staff, laity, clergy and Ops Team, including the Ops Representative to Servant Steering Team
  • Collaborate with other core/discipleship staff to support overall function of ministry
  • Promote the camaraderie of the church staff
  • Possess a clear profession of faith in Christ lived out personally through family
Areas of Responsibilities
  • Administrative Support
    • Provide administrative support to the office of senior pastor
    • Coordinate the areas of the accounting, facilities and security areas
    • Coordinate training for administrative support area position training, as needed
    • Coordinate personnel benefits and property insurance
    • Address and resolve all needs for telephone, computer hardware, software updates and IT support
  • Facilities
    • Manage scheduling process of building usage
    • Manage scheduling of all facility needs in coordination with appropriate Ops teams
    • Ensure that all liability and maintenance needs are coordinated along with appropriate Ops Team
    • Communicate facility maintenance and purchases with appropriate Ops Team
    • Respond to safety and security considerations for all who use the facility and provide support for the security staff
    • Establish policies/guidelines concerning use of church property and facilities along with appropriate Ops, Finance and Administrative Teams
    • Direct and supervise Maintenance and Security staff
    • Support Ops Team and Ops Team Representative to Servant Steering Team
      • Convene and lead Ops Team meetings as needed
      • Manage and monitor matters of risk and legal liabilities for the church
      • Plan and recommend space usage and equipment needs
      • Administrator of Columbarium, liaison to appropriate Ops Team
        • Provide and complete paperwork of those investing/purchasing
        • Prepare product (brass urns, Niche and Memorial Plaque Stones) on timely basis
        • Manage maintenance of Columbarium area
  • Finance
    • Oversee accounting procedures for congregational giving, including monthly statements
    • Serve with Finance Representative to Servant Steering Team to provide compliance with accounting practices set forth by the United Methodist standards
    • Maintain records of payroll and benefits


  • College graduate or its equivalent experience required
  • Experience in business or administration management
  • Strong computer skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
