Greetings from Camp Minnesota. Spring has finally arrived, and with it comes the excitement of a new camping season! Your camp staff is busy preparing for what promises to be another great summer camping season. As we continue to prepare, there are a few things we’d like to share:
Sign up for camp. There is still plenty of time to sign up for a camping experience at Koronis, Northern Pines, Kowakan and Servant Heart Ministries! Children, youth, and families in your churches or places of ministry need to know about camping opportunities! With so many events for all ages in 2013, there is something for everyone! No children at home? How about a grandchild, co-worker’s kids, neighbors? Contact your local church--call 1 (855) 622-1973 (toll free) or camps@campminnesota.orgfor information or to request a free Camp Minnesota brochure. Camp is a place where thousands of people have made decisions about faith in their lives! Camp is a mountain-top experience in many people’s faith stories. Maybe it’s in yours too? Thank you for sharing camping opportunities with the families in your church!
Campership opportunities. Camp Minnesota feels strongly that any child who wants to come to camp should be able attend. No camper will ever be turned away because they cannot afford to pay. We provide campership funds to the individuals and families who need them most. Please have folks who are interested in receiving a campership complete the application online at https://minnesotaumc.org/get-involved/camping-retreats/camping-forms/.
Camp Ambassadors. We are seeking to identify a "camp ambassador" at every United Methodist church in Minnesota. Camp ambassadors help spread news and information about camping opportunities to the children, youth, families, and adults in their church and community. A camp ambassador may be someone who has attended Minnesota United Methodist camps, is a Christian educator, a youth leader, or just someone who is excited about youth and camping. No ambassador yet? There’s still time! More information and great resources are available at www.campminnesota.org.
New opportunity to stay connected (and to connect others) with Camp Minnesota using “Camping Clips.” We’re excited to share a new outreach. “Camping Clips” (previously known as “Bulletin Bites”) are a short sentence or two from Camp Minnesota, for you to include in your Sunday worship bulletins, church newsletters, or any other place you see fit. You can receive “Camping Clips” via e-mail, a couple times a month, as a way to keep congregations and communities “in-the-know" with what is happening at your camps! Thank you for helping to make sure it finds their way to the folks in your church.
Summer Staff Opportunities. Camp Minnesota is seeking to fill a few summer positions. Are you (or is someone you know) looking for a summer job that gives you plenty of time outdoors, great fun with friends and an opportunity to impact the lives of children and youth? Apply for a camp job! If you are 18 years old or older and want to have the best summer of your life, we want to talk to you! Staff positions are available in areas of cabin leadership, activity leaders, and kitchen and maintenance help. All seasonal staff receives room, board, and certifications too. Please complete an application online at https://minnesotaumc.org/get-involved/camping-retreats/job-openings/or contact us with any questions.
Thank you for all you do to help the children, youth, families, and adults in your churches and communities know about camping opportunities.
It just wouldn’t be summer without camp!
Keith Shew is director of camping for the Minnesota Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.
