Action: The Minnesota Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church approved the following groups or organizations to be designated as having Conference Advance Special Status. The Conference Advance Special program exists to enable persons and churches to support mission and ministry projects within the bounds of the Minnesota Annual Conference and world-wide where there is a Minnesota UMC missional connection. Advance Specials are ministries, institutions and agencies that are a specific mission project or a specific mission project of a broader mission agency, which requires support beyond the capabilities of its parent ministry. Item 401

Discontinuance of West Concord UMC

Adopted/Adopted as Amended/Defeated

WHEREAS the West Concord United Methodist Church located in Dodge County was founded in 1907 and has had a long and proud history; and

WHEREAS the charge conference of the West Concord United Methodist Church voted on October 2, 2022 to discontinue the church; and

WHEREAS the district superintendent has recommended discontinuance of West Concord United Methodist Church and transfer of membership to Pine Island and Dodge Center United Methodist Churches; and

WHEREAS the building has been donated to the city of West Concord to be used as an event center; and

WHEREAS the consent to discontinue has been granted by the presiding bishop, a majority of the district superintendents, and the district board of church location and building and all proper Disciplinary requirements have been complied with;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the West Concord United Methodist Church be discontinued effective December 31, 2022 and that the property be gifted to the city of West Concord.

Item 501

Disaffiliation of Akeley United Methodist Church

Adopted/Defeated

Whereas Akeley United Methodist Church located in Akeley, MN has entered into faithful discernment and held congregational meetings with annual conference representatives to understand the implications of disaffiliation;

Whereas the duly called church conference of Akeley United Methodist Church presided by District Superintendent Rev. Laurie Kantonen voted with a 2/3 majority of those present and voting on October 2, 2022, to disaffiliate from the United Methodist Church in accordance with Paragraph 2553 of the 2019 Addendum to the Book of Discipline;

Whereas the Board of Trustees of the Minnesota Annual Conference approved the completed disaffiliation agreement that outlined a payment of $21,590.79 of the church’s pro rata share of the Minnesota Annual Conference’s unfunded aggregate pension obligation and $18,852.34 for the current year and future year apportionment and the congregation approved said disaffiliation agreement at a duly called Church Conference on April 23, 2023, date by a 2/3 majority vote;

Whereas there are no outstanding debts, loans and liabilities remaining to the Minnesota Annual Conference by Akeley United Methodist Church;

Whereas all property and assets of Akeley United Methodist Church have been disclosed to the Conference Board of Trustees and the property to leave with the church include: church building at 17 1st SE, Akeley, MN.
