MN Reconciling Congregations & Communities Gathering with Bishop Talbert
All are invited to attend the Minnesota Reconciling Congregations annual gathering! We will gather at 11:30 a.m., have lunch at noon (please bring a dish to share), and enjoy a program beginning at 12:45. There will be an update from Reconciling Ministries Network.
The highlight of the gathering will be Bishop Melvin Talbert. Bishop Talbert is a retired United Methodist bishop, whose civil rights protest experiences impacted his life profoundly, having spent three days and nights in jail with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Talbert is a strong advocate for the full inclusion of all people and has extended his civil rights work to the LGBTQ community.
In response to the United Methodist common belief that God's grace and love is available to all persons, he asserts that the UMC is in error on the subject of "homosexuality's incompatibility with Christian teaching." He commends United Methodists to "biblical obedience,"operating as if that negative statement does not exist, creating a church where all people are truly welcome.
