Structure

All United Methodist congregations are connected by an annual conference, through which they share resources for mission and ministry. Clergy are members of annual conferences and are appointed to serve congregations by the area bishop. Annual conferences are all part of the United Methodist Church, an international body. Boards and agencies serve them all and carry out the mandates set by United Methodists at their General Conference, which meets every four years.

The boards and agencies of the United Methodist Church provide services and ministries that are beyond the scope of the individual local congregations and annual conferences. If you or your church organization need assistance in any part of your ministry, a general agency stands by to assist you. A complete list and description of the United Methodist General Boards and Agenices is available at the United Methodist web site.

The churches of the annual conference cooperate in five geographic districts: Big Waters, North Star, Twin Cities, River Valley, and Southern Prairie. Every year, lay people and clergy come together for an annual conference session, where they determine how to distribute funds collected for the mission of the church, ordain ministers, and celebrate how they have brought God's love to others in Minnesota and around the world.
